1969 Historical Security Council

The UN Security Council is one of the principal organs of the United Nations. While it remained dormant throughout most of the Cold War, this specific Historical Security Council will cover the Vietnam War. The Vietnam War was one of the many proxy wars during the Cold War and was incredibly controversial regarding US involvement. It was mainly fought between the communist Democratic Republic of Vietnam, often called North Vietnam, and the western, US-backed Republic of Vietnam. Throughout the committee, resolutions to the conflict, as of 1969, the war's height, will be proposed by both sides. Additionally, topics such as the use of herbicides and other weapons will be discussed, albeit briefly.

Meet the Chairs
Austin Monestel
Hi Delegates, I am Austin Monestel, Head Chair for the 1969 Historical Security Council covering the Vietnam War, and I am honored to be participating in this year's BSBMUN. I am currently a sophomore attending Escola Americana de Brasilia and I have been a member of MUN since the eighth grade, chairing for BSBMUN VI as well as being a delegate for numerous conferences. MUN has helped me grow in my debate skills and I hope that you all will have the same experience in this committee. Apart from MUN, I was born in the United States but, except for my first three years, have grown up internationally. As such, I have had the privilege of experiencing a variety of cultures, a trait proven to be beneficial for MUN.
